Dress Two Ways

I was recently approached by Fat Face to collaborate on a post styling their lovely 'Hemsley' dress for day wear and a more formal occasion. Being a big fan of Fat Face (their knitwear is pretty much my favourite), I happily accepted and could not have been more pleased when I received the dress.

I would like to say a few words about the dress before the outfits. First, it has pockets. Second, it has adjustable straps. Third, it has a shirred back, meaning that us bustier ladies don't have to worry about loose waist or tight bust — it fits perfectly. It hits me exactly on my knee, which, while longer than most dresses and skirts I tend to wear, is a lovely length. I would say that this makes it a flattering length on a variety of heights, as I often find that skirt or dresses are either far too long on me, or so short it makes me wonder how anyone above 160cm/5'2'' can wear them without flashing something.

The dress comes in a variety of patterns, which is another feature I appreciate, as I find it incredibly frustrating to find something that fits perfectly and has a lovely shape, but that doesn't come in a print or colour I like. I chose the Indian Garden print, which is currently not on the website but you may well be able to find it in the shops!

For the casual daytime outfit, I chose to pair the dress with a cropped denim jacket and a pair of suede moccasins (£45.00)*.

The moccasins, as the dress, are well made and generally very comfortable. I say generally because while the left shoe fits perfectly and is so soft and comfortable, the right shoe rubs my foot causing some discomfort. On inspection, there's nothing difference between the shoes, which I am taking to mean that it's just the shape of my foot. I have noticed an improvement with wear though, so basically you might just have to break them in a little bit — as you do with most shoes.

When styling the dress for a more formal occasion, I immediately thought of a garden party. Now, I know that the weather in England has not been the best for the past few weeks and no one wants to flutter around in a sleeveless summer dress in downpour (or have garden parties for that matter), but I am imagining a perfect summer day (which I did experience this past weekend!) to wear this ensemble on.

For this outfit, I swapped the loafers for a pair of white sandals with a low block heel, adding a two-strand necklace (£16.00)* and a clutch (which is not actually a clutch, ha).

Do head over to the Fat Face website to have a peek at their new arrivals, there is many a thing that I admiring at the moment!

Life, Lately

It's been two weeks since my last post, despite my best attempts. I keep opening Blogger and attempting to put together a post, but I feel like I have nothing new to say. Real life is still taking up all my time and resources, and I simply have not had time to pop out for outfit photos or to compile other kinds of posts.

Since my last post, Nick and I have moved into our first home(!). Most of the flat is now sorted, but our second bedroom is still a storage area, which is something I intend to work on this weekend — especially since I was given a day off work today because I said I'd been too busy to finish setting up our flat! Another reason for wanting to get the room sorted is the fact that we got a wardrobe for the second bedroom on Thursday evening. The said wardrobe is currently placed in front of our second bookcase in the living room, while also obscuring all the natural light hitting the kitchen table. Basically, very awkward and annoying.

The moving-in is not the only big thing to have happened since my last post. I have also started a job, quit a job and started another job. Yes, I admit (though it pains me) that I quit after one week in a job. I was offered a position at Waterstones, and as it fitted into my plans of going into publishing much better, was at a much better location commuting-wise and generally suited me better in every single way, I took it. I started yesterday, and I could immediately tell that I'd made the right decision. I suddenly don't have a compulsion to search for publishing jobs every spare minute I have. I haven't given up, but I feel like I can wait for a little while and still enjoy work.

The point of this post was to say that I'm still alive and not abandoning the blog. I feel that I'll be able to concentrate on my blog better after the flat is put together and every room is a usable space, which will hopefully happen by the end of today. Creating a comfortable living space is the priority, as at the moment the clutter and mess of boxes is just making me anxious.

Wishlist: ASOS

As I'm a mere days(!) away from moving into my first ever home with my boyfriend, it's not exactly the best time for clothes shopping. However, I've been living out of a suitcase for almost 2 months now and let me tell you — no matter how much you love your clothes, it starts to feel a little boring. And a girl can dream, right?

With the currently limited wardrobe, I've noticed how much I stick to same things. I love my striped tops (generally either black and white or blue and white). 95% of my wardrobe seems to consist of black, white, blue and red. This does not bother me — that's what I feel comfortable in and what I like the look of. But I do also feel like I want to experiment a little more.

So I did a little window shopping on ASOS (and okay, maybe I also made a little order — shh!) and tried to pick things that were, if not very far from my usual choices, at least a little different.

I'm wishing for...
Closet Lace Back Blouse RRP £28.00  £16.00 | ASOS Mini Wiggle Dress in Crepe with Tulip Print £38.00 £22.50
Catarzi Floppy Hat in Khaki £35.00 £24.50

Clearly I am wanting ALL the shoes at the moment! I do seem to be living in the same pair of black flats nowadays so I guess that's understandable.

Have you spotted something you love in the ASOS sale?
